New Zealand's fastest growing salaries

Which industries and roles have seen the fastest salary growth on SEEK? We’ve unpacked the data so you can remain competitive and attract top talent.

According to research for SEEK, the main reason people look for a new job is because they’re not getting paid enough. So, if you’re looking at hiring top talent, how competitive is your salary offer?

We’ve put together a list of New Zealand industries and jobs that have experienced the biggest salary increases.  Select an industry below to find out.

SEEK data, roles based on average advertised salaries for job ads listed on SEEK from Jul-Dec 22 to Jul-Dec 23. A minimum threshold of job ads on SEEK is required for a role to appear in this table.

Why does salary matter in a job ad?

Salary is a key factor in people deciding to apply for a role. Including salary in a job ad can help people make informed decisions before applying, and can help you set expectations early on.

Job ads on SEEK that include a salary and are offering more than the market average receive up to 47% more applications than job ads that don’t show a salary.

But if you can’t offer the highest salary in the market, consider highlighting other benefits that can appeal to people instead. Visit SEEK’s Laws of Attraction to get an idea of the things that attract people in your industry, and include those in your job ad to help make it more appealing.

When should employers talk about salary in the recruitment process?

Addressing salary considerations early in the recruitment process is key to making sure you’re on the same page. If you feel uncomfortable stating an exact figure, you could mention a salary range to prevent disappointment and the likelihood of someone rejecting an offer.

If you can’t offer a competitive salary, understand what motivates your candidate, and consider discussing other benefits like flexible working arrangements, car allowances, gym memberships, or learning opportunities.
